Wait'll They Get A Load Of Me

Jenn Peter (Nick) and I were on a movie set again today. It was a very long day for all of us. The kids and I were background and I also did some stills photography. Today's photo isn't actually part of the set. They were testing some make up schemes for a scene a few days from now and Javier kindly volunteered to be their test model. I got to take a photo when they were done. I have very little experience with movie sets but from what I saw here one has to be prepared to change roles (at least on an Indie production) at a moments notice. On this set I saw Javier work lighting, background, and this stint as a make up model. Quite an interesting job.

 I used the 50mm 1/80th sec at f4 iso 200

  1. How did you illuminate this one Brook? Flash? Fixed lamp? Gelatin filters? Details details, please :) Remember, you're teaching some of us, as well as entertaining!

  2. Funny you should mention that. I was going to point out the light in this one however I was so tired, kept falling asleep writing this one I totally forgot. If you look in Javier's eyes you can tell it's a spot and just above and to the left of centre so it's off camera. This was a movie spot light about 10 feet behind me. Gave a nice crisp light. I've never used a light like this and I think it really suited the shot. I love movie light. On set they use a lot of daylight balanced fluorescent light banks. It is real nice to work with. Of course having the cinematographer set up the light for the film is a bonus ha ha. I am planning on posting an example today and you should see what I mean.

  3. Nicely done Brook! The lamp was a 750w Source Four Leko with a 19 degree lens. Looks remarkably well for being the only light!
