In The Shack

Dar and I had to get out to have some kind of a photo walk the other day. We went around to Steveston then New West. We covered some new ground and went over some familiar areas. While in a metal works yard we talked to a man who was curious about why people like to come take photos of the rusty old metal things laying around the yard. We talked to him a bit and while Dar took some photos of him I wandered back and had a look at his little coffee break shack.

A Second Look

I think when I first went through my eagle photos I saw this one, decided to keep going through the rest and forgot to come back to it. I made some adjustments to the light, did some cropping and voila. Worthy of the web I think.

Get Out There!

You know what I like? I like a day where I am feeling restless. A day where I really want to get out but not sure where I want to go or what I want to do but I know I have to get out. I pack up the camera gear put on my jacket and go out the door. I end up downtown still kind of wondering where I am going with this day. That's not necessarily the part I like. The Part I like is I am wandering without any real goal and BOOM! I come across the Vancouver Taiko Society performing. Now I have a reason to be out there.

I am still in a black and white phase however while I was shooting I wondered if these might be better in colour. Once on the computer though I knew they were staying monochrome. This last one shows off the colour of their uniforms.

 Did you get the BOOM?

Streetlights

I posted some photos the other day to my other blog. I bit the bullet and tried street photography. When I posted there I felt like I was missing a photo or two. I found them on my other camera as the battery in the little one died. So I thought I would post them here to mix things up a bit.

and

I just read a how to article about street photography. In it the author suggested you should act like a tourist. So I think for this summer I'll get some Hawaii shirts or "I heart Vancouver" t-shirts and baggy shorts. I mean shorts baggier than the ones I have now.

Fix It So It's Broken

So they sell you software to improve your photo, sharpening it, balancing the colour and giving it just the right saturation. To adjust the light so it sets the perfect mood. Those and hundreds of other things to make your picture something awesome to look at. Then, they sell you software to take a perfectly good photo and fade it, under/over expose it, warp it, dust it up, splash stuff all over it tear it, blur it and otherwise make it a mess. If I found one of my old slides beat up like this in a box I would shudder. That's just crazy. Oh well, it was kind of fun doing it.
