Looking At Something In A New Light

I have had this thing where I would work to make a photograph conform to the formats that are generally used, 4x6, 5x7, and others on up. Like the expression "thinking inside the box" I was thinking inside the frame. As I looked at this photo none of the regular formats would work so it didn't. I enjoyed how the two cranes and the rock were arranged and decided to format the photo to them rather than make them try to fit in the photo. This is an unusual look for me but I am glad I was able to let an old habit go for a bit. I am going to have to change my thinking a bit with my photography and allow the formatting some freedom.

This was taken with a 70-300 at 120mm 1/500th sec f10 iso 200 and was shot here.

Let The Light Shine Down

Isn't it nice when a photo comes to you? I am usually out seeking photos and sometimes they can be hard to find. I was doing some yardwork when I happened to look up and noticed the light playing on the buttercups. It was so nice this photo came to me rather than me have to look for it. However I had to go seek out my camera to get this photo as it was in the house.
 I used the 16-80 at 80mm 1/60th sec f11 iso 100

Our Little Latte

Earlier this year our cat Angel died. After she was gone it dawned on me we didn't have any photos of her taken recently. Here I am running around taking photos of everything and anything and I didn't have a good photo of her. I resolved to not let that happen with our little cat Latte. So, today I set up my little kitchen studio and several pets and treats (I am surprised she didn't barf) later here is a result of our photo shoot.

This was shot with the 16-80 at 30mm  1/125th sec f10. I had a flash shot through an umbrella front left and one through an umbrella from the right lighting the backdrop. Both flash were old Vivitar 285's at max power and radio triggered.

Now that I think of it, trying to photograph Angel this way could have been somewhat hazardous.

Totem Light

Totem poles are a wonderful subject. To take something a bit beyond a photo of a totem in it's environment can be a bit of a challenge. To try and get something just a little different, a photograph that shows it in a different light. I was pondering this when I walked into it's shadow.

I used the 16-80 at 24 mm, x3 exposures 1/60th-1/100th-1/160th sec f22 iso 400. this photo was taken here at the Museum of Anthropology.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

I went for a long walk today. I have been to Fleetwood Park before and taken photos, just never walked there. I came home with a blister on my foot, a sore back and this.

There aren't a lot of flowers there yet but I am sure it will be worth walking back.... Just not tomorrow.

I used the 16-80 at 70mm  1/250th sec f4.5 iso 100
